EURO 2016: 2ND RANKED TEAM IN THE WORLD HUMILIATED BY 12TH IN THE WORLD (ITALY 2 - 0 BELGIUM)

Belgium ranked 2nd in the world by FIFA failed to pick at least a point in their first Group E match against an Italian team ranked 12th in the world by FIFA.

The 2nd in the world ranked Belgian team indeed faced a more compact Italian side both in defense and attack. Although, Belgium pressurized the Azzuris in the early first half of the match but the 38 years old goalkeeper ''Buffon'' didn't give a chance. The Azzuris were able to absorb all the pressures and tactics the Belgians came up with.

In the 32nd min a sublime over head cross from the center of the pitch by Bonucci went ahead of the Belgian defenders, found his man, Giaccherini, his first control was done with perfection, the second was placed rightly behind the net where Thibaut Courtois hands could not reach or eyes see.

Lows of the match
Lukaku performed below expectations in this very match, he had opportunities in the Italian danger box which he could not convert, to me he shouldn't have started the match ahead of Origi,

The Italian back line intimidated Lukaku to the extent that he could not even control the ball on several occasions.

Eden Hazard, De bruyne and Martiens also made a couple of moves upfront, yet the Italian defense was well mounted by Bonucci, Barzagli and Chiellini, they couldn't get through.

It could have been more than two against the Belgians if not for the saves by Thibaut Courtois in the first and second halves.

Southampton striker Graziano Pelle has been spectacular scoring 11 league goals last season. he has continued in the same scoring prowess for the Azzuris by coming off the bench in the second half to score the second goal of the match with a classic volley after a counter attack move. Hmm!! I thought Conte said he doesn't play counter attacking football? Chelsea fans should have a hand on that !!

Full-Time

Italy 2 - 0 Belgium

32' Emmanuele Giaccherini
90' Graziano Pelle
